TO ALL WEATHERSEAL STAIN AND PUTTYLASTIC CAULK CUSTOMERS

15 September, 2017 0 comments Leave a comment

To all Weatherseal Customers:

We have just been informed that Continental Products will be reducing their color lines at the conclusion of 2017.  They have decided to keep their “Classic” colors that total (8).  All other colors will not be available beginning in 2018.  If one of these colors affects you they are asking that you can switch to one of the “Classic” colors for future recoats and maintenance on your home moving forward into the future.  If you have any questions about this please contact our office at 800-721-7715 and we can walk you through this.  We realize that this will not be an easy transition for everyone.  We will be here to help assist you through this.  We offer to send you samples of potential  color options from the “Classic” line for you to sample in order to make this transition easier on you.  Also, if you have purchased one of the discontinued colors from us in the past we will be contacting you directly in order to make you aware of this to avoid surprises later.  We apologize for this inconvenience and please let us know how we can make this as easy a transition for you as possible.  Thank You.

CLEANING THE LOGS

16 March, 2017 0 comments Leave a comment

Before you apply any type of coating to logs, the surface must be clean and free of any dust, debris, unsound surface wood or mill glaze.  A typical log surface is coated with "mill glaze".  A typical log surface of wood when leftover tree resins and sugars react to the mechanical and heat energy from the milling process.  This layer of glaze can be almost impenetrable to stains.  It must be removed before good penetration and adhesion can occur.  The best overall cleaning method is corncob or glass media blasting.  Sashco's sodium percarbonate cleaner, CPR, can work well for this important step.   The best methods for removal are corncob or glass media blasting, direct sanding or aggressively power-washing logs with high pressure water.  These processes will not only remove the surface glaze, but will also help roughen the surface for a better coating bond.

This can be purchased on our I-Wood-Care online store under cleaners.

REGULAR CHECKUPS

27 July, 2015 0 comments Leave a comment

Preventative maintenance saves time and money, so it is good practice to inspect your home each spring and the fall.  This involves walking around your home and paying close attention to the stain's appearance.  Look for fading or weathering effects, loss of water repellency, or mildew fungi growth (often caused by dirt collecting on the surface of the stain creating a film for organisms to anchor and feed on).  It is important to pay close attention to the south-facing and west-facing walls of the home since these are typically exposed to more sun and elements.  If you notice severe problems (excessive checking, peeling or discoloration), tend to them immediately.  You may need to call in a professional. I-Wood-Care can help you locate someone.  We will be happy to help you!

CARPENTER BEE'S

30 April, 2015 0 comments Leave a comment

Carpenter bees are large (1 inch) yellow and black bees which become active in early spring.  They resemble bumble bees but do not live in colonies, have fewer hairs and no pollen sacs on the hind legs.  They appear around homes and are a nuisance.  Although it is rare to be stung by one, their sheer size is scary and people stay clear of them.

Their nest is much more of concern.  These nests, if left untreated, will result in extensive structural damage and will result in costly repairs within a few years.  The female will go in and out of the nest so patience will show where the entrance is.  Killing the individual bees with a liquid insecticide will not destroy the bee's young.

THE NEST MUSH BE TREATED!!!

Treating the carpenter bee holes is simple, easy and safe.  The best and most effective product to use is "DRIONE DUST", and a CRUSADER DUSTER, which is available here on our I-WOOD-CARE online store.  Look under insecticides.
